Lloyd's Algebra Unproject

In this blog it will tell you definitions and show you how to 2 step multiply, 2 step divide and distribute

Definitions
Coefficient - The number that is placed before and multiplied by the variable.
e.g. 2x+4=10

Constant - A quantity that does not change its value.
e.g. 2x+4=10

Variable - A letter or symbol that is used to represent a number.
e.g. 2x+4=10

2 step multiply
3x+4=10

The first thing you do is isolate the variable. To isolate the variable you need to make a zero pair for the constant.
3x+4-4=10-4

After you isolate the variable you balance it, by dividing both sides by the coefficient and after that you simplify it.
3x=6
3    3
x=2

Once you've find the solution, you verify by first rewriting the question.
3x+4=10

Then you change the variable to the solution and multiply. In this case the solution is 2 and you multiply the coefficient (3) to 2.
3(2)+4=10

After you multiply you add the coefficient to the constant..
6+4=10

And you got your answer.
10=10

2 step divide
x+5=8
2

First you isolate the variable like when you do multiplication by making a zero pair for your constant.
x+5-5=8-5
2

After you isolate the variable you balance it, by multiplying both sides by 2.
(2)x=3(2)
    2
x=6

Now you verify, by rewriting the question.
x+5=8

Substitute or change the variable to the solution.
6+5=8
2

Now you divide the coefficient.
3+5=8

And that's how you to 2 step divide.
8=8

Distribute
2(g+4)=-8

To distribute you first multiply the coefficient to the constant and variable
2(g+4)=-8
   g+4
   g+4

and you get.
2g+8=-8

Now you find the solution, by doing the 2 step multiply.
2g+8=-8
2g+8-8=-8-8
2g=-16
2       2
g=-8

Now you verify by doing the 2 step multiply.
2g+8=-8
2(-8)+8=-8
-16+8=-8
-8=-8

And that's how you distribute. I hope you learned about something in this blog.

Ch.9 Chapter Review

7. Klaus works after school. The graph shows his rate of pay.
a)
b) Yes it represents a linear relation because the points lie on a straight line and its a recursive pattern.
c) Yes its possible because you work in not whole hours.

10.The table of values represents a linear relation.
a)
b) The difference in the consecutive A values is 1 and the difference in the consecutive B values is 4.
c) 4 times A plus 1 equals or 4a+1

12. Speedy print shop charges $2 for the the first colour copies and $1 for each additional colour copy.
a)
b) No because the points don't lie on a straight line and the cost($) is not a recursive pattern
c) c+1
d) 13

13. Craig travels at constant speed in kilometers per hour. The formula d= 15t represents the relationship.
a) d represents distance and t represents time
b) 15 represents how many kilometers Craig travels per hour.
c)
d)
e) Yes its possible because you could travel in not whole hours.
f)120 km

2. To model (-3) x (-5), Raini places 15 zero pairs on her desk.
a) Why did she use 15 zero pairs?
She used 15 zero pairs because she needed to remove 3 groups of -5.
b) What should she do next?
She should remove 3 groups of -5.

8. Write each expression as a repeated addition.
a) (+7) x (+2) 2+2+2+2+2+2+2
b) (+4) x (-9) -9+-9+-9+-9

13. Copy and complete each multiplication statement.
a) (+4) x (+6) = (+24)                    b) (+7) x (-2) = (-14)

c) (-1) x (+5) = (-5)                        d) (-8) x (-2) = (+16)

15. An aircraft descends at 3 m/s for 12 s. Use the multiplication of two integers to represent the situation. How far does the aircraft descend?
(+12) x (-3) = (-36)
The aircraft descends 36 m

Lloyd's Pay it Foward

Part 1
What is "Pay it Forward"?
"Pay it Forward" is a way of helping people. "Pay it Forward" is a person helping three people without getting anything back then the three people that the person helped will each help three people then the same thing happens to the other people they help 3 people.

Part 2
What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?
My Pay it Forward act of kindness is shoveling people's yard with my friends. Even though we told its for free they still gave us money. Were going to donate the money to charity.

Why did you choose this activity?
I chose this activity because I wanted to make a difference and a lot of houses had a lot of snow.

Who did you help?
I helped my friends, neighbors and other people.

What did you do?
Me and my friends shoveled snow.

When did you do you act of kindness?
I did my act of kindness on November 30th after school till 8 pm and December 1st at 2 pm till 4 pm.

Part 3
How did your act of kindness go?
I think we did pretty good because we shoveled more than 10 houses and the people were happy.

What Happened?
Some of the people gave us money and candy.

How did you feel?
I felt happy because i helped my community by  shoveling snow so their feet wouldn't get wet or they wouldn't slip.

How did the person or people react?
Some the of the people were happy because were doing it for free and most of the people were asking if its free.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
No because we told them what's "Pay It Forward"

How did they react to your request?
They felt happy and thankful because we shoveled their yard for free and we were helping the community.

If you did not ask the person to "Pay It Forward" how come?
Because we told them what's "Pay It Forward"

Part 4
Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
The idea of "Pay it Forward" is important because anyone could make a difference by doing little or big things.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?
I think it did because it showed the people that anyone could make a difference by doing little or big things.

Lloyd's Proportion post

Lloyd's Proportion post

Part 1 Define

Ratio: A comparison of 2 quantities that have the same unit of measure
Example:
Footballs to all the balls is 3:5

Rate: Compares 2 quantities measured in different units

Example: Usain Bolt travels 100 mt in 9 seconds is 100mt/9sec

Proportion: Equation that tells 2 ratios are equal
Example:

Part 2 Answer using proportion statements

1. 5 hours to travel 360 km is about       km/h

 2. Emma saves 28 cents of every dollar she earns. Emma earned 75 dollars last week. How much money did she save last week. She saved 21$

Part 3 what are three ways that you can prove equivalent ratio statements are true

Part 4 find a video about using proportion and embed it into your post

Part 5 What do you think about this image below.

1. Does this seem fair?
2.With what do you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above Does it seem just and fair?
3.Why you made this choice?
4.What would you have done if you were the judge?

1.No its not fair
2.No its not even fair
3.Because the homeless man only stole 100$ and he's sent to jail for 15 years and the other guy stole 3 billion $ and he's sent to jail for 40 months. That's not even close to fair.
4.If I was the judge I would send the homeless guy to jail for 3 months and I would send the other guy to jail for 15 months.

Bonus question
How many peaches are on the front cover of the traffic box?

There are 12 peaches in 1 basket and there are 18 baskets.
There are 216 peaches on the front cover of the traffic box
