2 step Multiply
2x+1=9
The first thing we should do in a 2 Step Multiply is to Isolate the Variable and this is what it should look like.
2x+1-1=9-1
Now that we have done this, 2x = 9-1 which is 2x = 8
9
Now that we have we have 2x = 8 we must do the opposite operation to get the value of x. Since 2x is multiplying, we must divide 2x by 2 and do the same to 8. The result we end up with would be x = 4. If you were to write it down it would look like this.
2x = 8
2x / 2 = 8 / 2
x = 4
Now we must Verify our theory
2x + 1 = 9
2(4) + 1 = 9
8 + 1 = 9
9 = 9
We also have to model this equation too and this picture will show you how:
And that is how we solve 2 Step Multiply equations.
2 Step Divide
x/2 + 4 = 9
What we must do is isolate the variable again. The steps are very similar to 2 Step Multiply. Since there is a positive 4, we
must do the opposite operation and subtract 4 from 4 and subtract 4 from 9.
x/2 +4-4 = 9 - 4
x/2 = 5
And now since theres division in this equation we must do the opposite operation which is Multiplication
This is what it would look like:
(x/2) x 2 = 5 x 2
x = 10
Now we must verify our answer again ( Note: We must Verify all the time in all algebraic equations)
x/2 + 4 = 9
(10) / 2 + 4 = 9
5 + 4 = 9
9 = 9
That my friends is how we solve 2 Step Divide equations
Distributive
2(x+4) = 10
For Distributive, we must multiply whatever is inside the brackets by whats outside of the brackets. In this case it would be 2 x (x) and 2 x 4. After you have done the steps, it should look like this:
2 x (x) = 2x
2 x 4 = 8
2x + 8 = 10
Now that we have a 2 Step Multiply Equation, all we have to do is the steps to solve a 2 Step Multiply Equation. The steps should look like this:
2x + 8 - 8 = 10 - 8
2x = 2
2x / 2 = 2/2
x = 1
Now we must Verify our answer.
2( x + 4) = 10
2 ( 1 + 4) = 10
2 (5) = 10
10 = 10
And that is how we do Distributive Equations!!!!!
Important Vocabulary Words
Co-efficient- Is any certain number that you can multiply a variable with, the co-efficient can be negative or positive.(example) 2x + 1 = 9
Constant - Are any numbers that are a part of the equation. They always stay the same.
(example) 2x +1 = 9
Variable- Is any letter that can represent any unknown number.
( example) 2x + 1 = 9
