Tina's Scribepost

Today we had to do page 227 in the textbook. I'm going to be doing numbers 1, 4, and 9. I will also be showing how I got the answer.

Question 1- Anna divided 5/6 by 1/2 and stated that the quotient is 5/12. A) What was Anna's mistake? Answer- Anna's mistake was that she didn't flip the second fraction, which is called a reciprocal. Like this:

B)What is the correct quotient? Use a diagram to show how you know.
Answer- First I'm going to estimate, then say what the question is asking in words, solve the answer, then use a diagram.

Now that I finished that, I know the answer, which makes it a bit easier to draw the diagram. I'm going to make the fractions with a common denominator. Like so-

Now onto Question 4.

A) Does 2 1/2 divided by 1 1/2 equal 1 1/2 divided by 2 1/2?
Answer- I believe that this question is asking if both of the questions have the same quotients or not. Which the answer is no, because the first question is 2 1/2 divided by 1 1/2, the answer is 1 2/3 (5/3), the second question is 1 1/2 divided by 2 1/2, the answer is 3/5, therefore the answer is no.

B) If the quotients in part A) are not equal, how are they related?
Answer- They are related in a way, because they have the same numbers, such as 2 1/2, 1 1/2, 1/2. They also in a way have the same answer, just flipped up and down. Like this-

Now my final question, I will answer, Question 9.
Divide.
A) 3/4 divided by 4/5.
Answer-15/16

B) 1 2/3 divided by 2 5/6
Answer- 9/17

C) 12 divided by 3/4
Answer- 16

Those are all my questions, I hope I helped you understand, even if it was just a little bit!

My Test Corrections.
On my test my mistake was drawing a diagram for 1/4 divided by 1/3.
So here's my correction for that question.
