Jordy's Pay It Forward

Part 1:
What is "Pay It Forward"?
Pay it forward is a movie is about a boy who it told by his teacher to make a difference in the world. He finds 3 people to help, once he helps them he need to tell them to "Pay it Forward".

Part 2:

What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?
My pay it forward was going through my family's wardrobe and my own for unwanted clothing, after my mother and I took it to the salvation army.
Why did you choose this activity?
I chose this activity because a lot of people don't have a lot of clothing and i thought it would be a good idea to give them some.
Who did you help?
I helped homeless people.
What did you do?
I gave clothing to the ones in need.

Part 3:
How did you act of kindness go?
It went well.
What happened?
I gave the clothes to the people of salvation army and they thanked me.
How did you feel?
I felt helpful because i helped someone who is not as fortunate as myself.
How did the person or people react?
They reacted surprised, because of someone my age giving so much.
Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
I did not ask the people/person to pay it forward.
How did they react to your request?
I did not ask them to pay it forward.
If you did not ask the person to "Pay It Forward" how come?
I didn't ask because of  they are the salvation army and they are already paying it forward by giving people clothes.
Part 4:

Why is the idea of "Pay It Forward" important?
It is important because it feels good knowing you've helped someone who need your help.
Has your act of kindness made a difference?
My act of kindness probably hasn't made a big difference in the whole community but it feels good to know that at least one person was helped.

Luis' Pay it Forward

Part One
Pay it Forward is a movement that started with one act of kindness. This act of kindness has then led to another act and so forth. In the movie it shows a child wanting to create a difference in the world but had to overcome difficulties. He eventually overcomes these challenges and succeeds in changing his community and other parts of the world.

Part Two
My Pay it Forward act of Kindness was donating a book to the Christmas Cheer Board during the 12 days of Sargent Park Christmas. I chose this activity because it would benefit other less fortunate people by donating this book.

Part Three
My act of kindness went well considering it was just one book. I do not know ho the person who received the book felt since I put it in the bin in the classroom. I did not ask the person to pay it forward since I did not give it to them personally.

Part Four
The idea of Pay it Forward is important because a simple act leads to another, causing this chain reaction. Another reason why this is important is because it helps less fortunate people in need. My act of kindness made a difference to the person receiving it since they probably can't afford it themselves.

Abhi's Pay It Forward

Part 1 What is "Pay it Forward". Pay it forward is helping others without taking any offers back to let them no that a small change can make a difference. Part 2 What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness? My Pay It Forward act of kindness was to shovel peoples houses in my block. Why did you choose this activity? I choose this activity because it was snowing outside and it was Saturday and I know no one wants to work on Saturday so i decided to help out. Who did you help? I help the people in my block. What did you do? I shoveled peoples houses. When did you do you act of kindness? I did this on Saturday December 1,2012 Part 3 How did your act of kindness go? My act of kindness went great. What Happened? Good things happened. How did you feel? I felt proud for shoveling peoples yard. How did the person or people react? The person was shock because we're going to shovel his yard for no cost. Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"? Yes i did fortunately. Part 4 Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important? The idea of "Pay It Forward" is important because small things you do for people can make a difference in the world. Has your act of kindness made a difference? I hope so.

John's Scribe Post

Last Monday, we learned how to divide fractions.

There's 2 ways of doing this.
Elementary or Junior High
If you don't know how to do the Junior High, read & view this scribe post!

There was no negatives in the equation so it's a positive.
'How many times can 3 go into 12?' = 4

Now listen up, this part is important.
If 1 number is negative, it's like this :
(-12) ÷ 3 = (-4)

But if 2 numbers are negative, it's like this :
(-12) ÷ (-3) = 4

So here's the SIGN RULE.
2 negatives = positive answer
1 negative = negative answer

It doesn't have to be 1 or 2 only, odds & evens too.
1-3-5-7-9-11
2-4-6-8-10-12

Russell's Scribe Post

In class, we learned about dividing fractions. I will recap the things we did when dividing fractions.

No negatives, so the product is positive.
There are 4 groups of 3 in 12.

There are 2 negatives, so the product is positive.
There are 4 groups of -3 in -12.

Dividing positive integers and negative integers are almost the same thing.

Another important thing we learned in class, is that you can't draw diagrams for opposite integers, like - ÷ +, opposite integers are called multiplicative inverse. It makes sense, because how can you draw a diagram of - 3 groups going into +12.

If you still don't get how I got the answer, check out this video, it might help:

Hopefully this post helped you understand how dividing integers work.

Angela's Integer Scribe Post

HW Booklet: 8.3

In this post, I will be answering 4 a), 5 a), 7 a), 9 a) and 11.

4. Use diagrams to complete each division statement.
a) (+12)÷(+6)=_(+2)

There are 2 groups of six in 12.

5. Use the diagram below each question to solve both statements.
a) (-10) ÷ (+2) =   (-5)
    (-10) ÷ (-5)  =   (+2

7. Draw a diagram to solve each question.
a) (-14) ÷ (-7) =   (+2)
Draw 14 negative integer chips, or empty circles. Then put them into groups of 7 negative integer chips.

9. Use the division of two integers to represent each situation and solve the problem.
a) Marcus scored 18 points during three games at his basketball tournament this weekend. If he scored the same number of points in each game, how many did he score per game?

18 ÷ 3 = 6
Marcus scored 6 points each game.
You divide the number of points by the number of games to see how many points he scored per game.

11. Penelope gets a pay cheque of $750 every two weeks. If she works Monday to Friday, how much is earned each day? Use the division of two integers to represent the situation then solve.

750 ÷ 10 = 75
Penelope earns $75 dollars each day.
She works Monday to Friday, so that's 5 days a week. She gets paid every 2 weeks, so 2 x 5 = 10. Divide the amount of money she gets every 2 weeks, which is 750, by the number of days, which is 10.

Practice how to divide fractions here.

Please leave your, comments, questions, or concerns down below!

Dylan`s Multiplying integer scribe post

Hey every body what well i got or a scribe post today was the odd numbers of pages 296 and 297 so heres the first two

this is what i did for the odd questions on 296
the first one was this

1.Darcy modelled (+7) × (+3) on a number line by drawing seven
arrows. Ishnan modelled (+7) × (+3) on a number line by
drawing only three arrows. Explain Ishnan’s thinking

My answer was this : She is showing 7 groups of 3 which 7x3 really is

The last question on 296 was some what the same and here it is

2.Without doing any calculations, Wei said that -19 and +27 have
the same product as +19 and -27. How did she know?
again my answer was: She knew this because -19 and 19 have the same value but different place values the same goes for 27 and -27

thats what is did for question 5 a

here's question 5 b

the last and final question is the easiest
A) 10x4=40
B) 2x9=18

Carmela's Scribe Post

A: She changed the sign from negative to positive and positive to negative.

A: a.) (-6) x (+2)= (-12)        b.) (+4) x (+4)= 16

A: a.) (+4) x (-7)= (-28)        b.) (+2) x (+9)= 18

2. To model (-3) x (-5), Raini places 15 zero pairs on her desk.
a) Why did she use 15 zero pairs?
She used 15 zero pairs because she needed to remove 3 groups of -5.
b) What should she do next?
She should remove 3 groups of -5.

8. Write each expression as a repeated addition.
a) (+7) x (+2) 2+2+2+2+2+2+2
b) (+4) x (-9) -9+-9+-9+-9

13. Copy and complete each multiplication statement.
a) (+4) x (+6) = (+24)                    b) (+7) x (-2) = (-14)

c) (-1) x (+5) = (-5)                        d) (-8) x (-2) = (+16)

15. An aircraft descends at 3 m/s for 12 s. Use the multiplication of two integers to represent the situation. How far does the aircraft descend?
(+12) x (-3) = (-36)
The aircraft descends 36 m

4. Jasmine said that she did not need any integer chips to multiply 0 x (+2) or to multiply (-3) x 0. Explain her thinking.

That is true because even if you used negative signs or positive signs, as long as there's a 0, you'll still get the answer of 0. About the integer chips, you won't need it. If you used 0 x (+2), that is 0 groups of 2. So then how do you draw "0" groups? You can't. For example, this can't be right:

5. Write each repeated addition as a multiplication.

a) (+1) x (+1) x (+1) x (+1) x (+1) = (+1)

b) (-6) x (-6) = 36

9. What multiplication statement does each set of diagrams represent?

(+2) x (+4) = (+8)

(+2) x (-4) = (-8)

18. Does doubling an integer always result in an integer of greater value? Explain.

Sometimes it can. If it was a negative, it would either go high or less if you saw it being represented on a number line.

Today in class we learned how to model multiplying integers, how to say them in words, and the different types you can multiply by, such as (+)x(+)=(+), (-)x(-)=(+), (+)x(-)=(-), and (-)x(+)=(-). These are the examples in class:

The other example we used in class was....

As you can see there are different ways to also say the multiplication statements for integers.
Here are 4 different questions, but they have 4 different ways to state these questions.

Now here are my 4 questions that I decided to do. I picked each of the different types so hopefully you can understand better. (I will only do the modeling!)
Also if these are very easy numbers, I apologize because I just took the first ones I saw that I haven't done yet.
